Our Story<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

The first “Gala Day” was held on September 2, 1945, in the town of Berwick. This event was sponsored by the Berwick Amateur Athletic Association to improve Rainforth Park. What began as a single day of community celebration has blossomed into the beloved multi-day festival we know today as Berwick & District Gala Days.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For nearly 80 years, we’ve been proudly supporting our youth and bringing our community together during Labour Day weekend. What started as a fundraising effort for local park improvements has evolved into one of Nova Scotia’s most cherished annual traditions.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/section>\n\n\n\n

The festival attracts approximately 12,000 people annually. But Gala Days is more than just numbers \u2013 it’s about the connections we make, the traditions we preserve, and the memories we create together as a community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The longstanding success of Gala Days is attributed to the many volunteers from the community at large. Volunteers plan the festival all year long and operate each event as it takes place throughout the weekend.<\/p>\n\n\n\n


Our festival exists because of the dedication and passion of incredible volunteers who donate countless hours throughout the year.
